Joy Burnworth-Bradley Young-John Belzaguy to perform at CalJAS House Concert May 22

Born in Anderson Indiana, Joy Burnworth began singing for anyone who would listen at the ripe old age of 3. This led to talent shows, drums & sax in the marching band, madrigals and swing choir which lead to clubs gigs with a rock band at 16. Touring with Taft Attractions she saw the world from Spain to Iceland to Japan. Joy attended Berklee College of Music.

Joy has worked with Matt Hyde (producer- Jonny Lang, No Doubt) David Foster, Ian Bernhard (Michael Fienstien). Joy has performed at the Oscars & Emmys. She has produced 3 records of her own material, co-written with Howard Anderson as well as their new EP Aqua Gardens, pictured above. Please go to www.andersonband.com for more information. Joy’s songs are played on NPR, College radio, and on countless internet shows. With her original music Joy has opened for Pat Benatar, Buffalo Springfield, Juice Newton, and BJ Thomas. She can be heard on Jazz Pianist & Fusion keyboard extraordinaire, Mitch Foreman’s new record singing 2 cuts. Her voice can be heard singing along with Eddie Money in the Ken Burns movie “Baseball”, she also sang background for Larry Bagby on his TV show theme song. Joy has also sang in the movie “The Secret”, doing some gospel vocal-ease over the orchestration of Chris Field. Currently, Joy is the first call sub for Jefferson Starship and is starting rehearsals with world famous producer Gerry Gallagher (Led Zerpplin, ACDC) for his band SOLA, a group of veteran musicians like Albert Lee, Brian Auger and Bunny Burnell for coroporate events. Joy is always gigging. She has performed at the famous Baked Potato to the Watermark in Ventura to Typhoon in Santa Monica with Les Hooper’s Big Band.

“I’m an incurable romantic, but I’ve got to tell you, it’s an easy condition to live with.” Bradley Young says with a smile.“And the only thing that makes me feel better is when I’m playing jazz standards.” And play he does – since the age of five.Starting private study then on piano, he was a Northwestern University student at age five, an Evanston Conservatory of Music student by 12, and a Berklee College of Music grad and Chet Baker accompanist by his early twenties. And all along the way, he devoured and mastered a host of musical styles. Classical, blues, soul, funk, boogie woogie, hip hop and jazz. Seen in action, Bradley’s abilities and musical vocabulary can be breathtaking, resulting in phrasings that are his alone.A real renaissance man, Bradley has earned his stripes as a soloist, combo and band leader, and motion picture soundtrack scorer.Plus he’s performed as pianist and music director for major special events, feting such luminaries as Clint Eastwood, Sigourney Weaver, Sharon Stone, Brooke Shields, Gary Shandling, and Teri Hatcher. But no matter what, it’s jazz – deeply romantic jazz that moves him most – now primarily as a soloist or as the leader of a small combo.Bradley’s goal: “When I finish a song, my aim is to leave the audience feeling either warm and romantic or like champagne that’s gone straight to their head on their very first date.”Currently based in Los Angeles and Chicago, Bradley can be seen setting the mood at many of Chi-Town’s best jazz clubs like Andy’s, Pop’s for Champagne, and The Green Mill. In L.A., his favorite romantic jazz club nightspots include the Catalina Bar and Grill and The Lighthouse Café in Hermosa Beach.

Bassist John Belzaguy, a Cuban American born in New York City,  has performed and/or recorded with Arturo Sandoval, Kurt Elling, Alessandro Alessandroni, the Echo Park Project, Francisco Aguabella, John Pisano, Bill Cunliff, Fred Hersch, Howard MaGee, Maria de Barros, David Askren, Shaina Noll, B.J. Ward and Cojunto Colores.

John has been a member of the Susie Hansen Latin Jazz Band for over a decade. Besides playing with Susie, he currently tours internationally with the Arturo Sandoval band.
