SOUNDS OF AFRICA BENEFIT CONCERT
CalJAS Board Member promotes benefit:
Windsong Southland Chorale, based in La Verne, and I Want To Help Africa, based in Claremont, have teamed up to present a pair of Benefit Concerts on Saturday, May 30, at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Munson Chapel, Azusa Pacific University, 901 E. Alosta Ave., Azusa. The songs in “Sounds of Africa”, comprised of all African music seldom heard in America, was carefully researched and selected by Windsong Artistic Director, Dr. Janet Harms. Percussion students at Bonita High School in La Verne, will take part in the concerts, as well as Windsong’s outstanding long-time accompanist, Felix Macovei. Mark Ruble, President and Founder of I Want To Help Africa will show a brief video, explaining the work of his organization in Zambia and Zimbabwe. A 50/50 drawing will be held. FRIENDS OF JAZZ 2015 HIGH SCHOOL BAND SERIES ENDS
CalJAS PRESENTS: SINGCOPATON AT STEAMERS
On May 14 the California Jazz Arts Society, in collaboration with Steamers Jazz Cafe, will host the award winning SINGCOPATION at Steamers. For the fifth consecutive year this Mt. SAC group, under the direction of Bruce Rogers, will excite a capacity audience with sensational ensemble arrangements as well as featured solos. The evening also includes returning alumni vocalists and instrumentalists.

DIANE HUBKA TO RETURN TO HOUSE CONCERT, WITH PAT KELLEY—APRIL 26
CalJAS is excited to have such sweet singing and guitar playing as Diane Hubka returns to its House Concert Series on April 26. Diane has always been one of our members’ favorite performers. Additionally, CalJAS finally has the opportunity to feature guitar giant, Pat Kelley, who we have tried to get for some time.
Both play guitar, and both sing…This duo performance will be outstanding!!!

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP NEWS
CalJAS Student Scholarship Director Bruce Babad has announced that Bryan Yanez / Saxophone – a Senior from Workman High School, has been named the most recent CalJAS scholarship recipient. CONGRATULATIONS BRYAN!
Past recipient Matt Caballero has been awarded lead alto saxophone in the Cal Poly All-State Honor Jazz Band! The 2015 Cal Poly All-State Festival Wind Orchestra and Festival Jazz Band are ensembles made up of carefully selected high school wind and percussion musicians chosen by recorded audition who will begin rehearsals on Friday evening, April 17, 2015 , and give a concert on Sunday afternoon, April 19, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. in the prestigious Performing Arts Center located on the Cal Poly campus.

CalJAS GOES TO KRISTIN KORB CONCERT
In November 2014, CalJAS Secretary/Treasurer Sue Boatman, along with CalJAS Member Debbie Stevens attended a Kristin Korb concert during her U.S.A. Tour. Sue was excited to see Kristin again and loved the concert!
